Hear me out. Vampires are weak to sunlight, feed on blood to survive, and don’t need to respirate to live (they’re undead). So vampires need a dark place with a lot of biomass to live. All I’m saying is that the seafloor should be covered with vampires.

Wish I could get greater character limits, couldn’t even get into how vampires could use echolocation underwater due to how vampires classically use bat imagery.

Don’t vampires have a thing against running water though? It’s either them or werewolves because they’re both most likely based on Rabies victims and hydrophobia is a symptom

I feel like this could easily turn into a “is water wet?” debate, but is the water really running if you’re fully submerged under the running part?

I mean you could argue it that way but does that mean that any vampire who used to be a land vampire has to be forcibly submerged against their will and once they’re under they can just sink down to the Vamplantis

water is always moving, including on the sea floor (marine science major)

That’s true, didn’t consider that. However, the idea of running water can become so broad that it’s hard to draw a line. Most fictitious stories about vampires don’t really consider the running water weakness for that purpose, and I’m doing the same. For example, if we argue that all running water weakens vampires, a vampire would never be able to drink blood. A vast majority of blood is made of water, and it flows through a circulatory system. Ergo, humans are FILLED with running water.

So basically, I’m disregarding the weakness on the grounds that it lessens the fun of story crafting.

And I had the idea that they ride sharks as mounts because sharks can detect very low amounts of blood through smell.

I did also think about this. In many stories, famously Dracula, vampires have hypnotic powers. It’s for this reason that stories about sirens and merfolk luring sailors to their deaths originated in my world. Funnily enough. Merfolk *do* exist in this setting, and fucking despise the aquatic vampires for this.
