Honestly Hollywood (not in lightyear but in general) has been giving such half assed “representation” and calling it a day since 2020 like we’re just supposed to settle for whatever they give us no matter how shitty it is bc they still did it, and then the “other side” of things will complain that it’s shitty bc of the fact that there’s representation in it…
Censorship for children is used to protect kids from information we don’t want them to know Then the question is why don’t we want them to know it? Often because it’s too complicated or because we don’t want a certain behavior imitated. That’s what this is. Fear of imitation and blatant homophobia. The information is not complicated— gay people exist, your kid can grow up to marry whomever they like. Grow the hell up old man
i think a lot of people are taking this a little too seriously. I'm literally a part of the LGBTQ+ community and i'm not offended by this. In fact to an extent, I agree with him. Why does a children's movie have to open up conversations with a young child about sexuality and what that is and means? He's not being homophobic, he's a stressed parent/grandparent who doesn't agree with a sociopolitical decision in pop culture. OH NO 🙄
I have an answer for you snoop Young kids: “some kids have a mom and a dad, some kids have two moms, and some kids have two dads. We’ll talk about how they have their babies when you’re a bit older but you don’t need to worry about that right now” Older kids: “when some couples struggle to have kids they can go to the doctor and ask for help, or they can adopt a kid that needs a home. If you want more details we can talk about it later.” There ya go.
its because men would rather blow their frontal lobe out and be disgustingly helpless sexist pigs than treat women like people LOLLL biggest victim mentality EVER insisting this “chronic loneliness” is only experienced by males … you don’t try. you can’t even maintain friendships with your fellow men, and then you throw a tantrum insisting you deserve a girlfriend or god forbid a WIFE because your brain is rotten. pure mush. your grey matter has putrefied and leaked out your ears.
there was no racism before the Age of European Exploration in the 15th-16th century bffr. we were not racist in mesopotamia omfg. but yes, murder and thievery is a basic human behavior that goes back to before we were human at all. great apes murder and steal and even commit rape. homosexuality isn’t even a human concept, it’s observable behavior in over 500 species of animals.
that’s actually very interesting! I wish you did have a source on that… I’d love to know if there was actually racist sentiment there, or if it was more of an imperialist hierarchy than a race-based one. the two aren’t mutually exclusive, but don’t always occur simultaneously.
that’s what I was thinking, I think empires historically were more xenophobic than actually racist before European colonialism. I don’t think there was any fixation on racial differences before then like there is now, but I’m not the most educated on the Roman Empire so maybe I’ve missed something.
You’ll probably get downvoted for this by people who miss the point but yes, this is exactly the issue here. Treating gay relationships differently on film ends up giving the message that they are an exception and not the norm, which is the exact opposite of the message they are trying to send.
That is the point I’m going for. I have absolutely no hate towards the gay community, quite the opposite in fact, I’m just saying that treating gay couples differently on screen makes it seem like it isn’t a normal thing when it is in reality. The way they handled it here comes across more as tone-deaf pandering to a specific audience instead of trying to create a genuine relationship. Al though, genuine emotion is something that film struggles with across the board.
“Treating gay relationships differently”. Conservatives are the only ones arguing that gay relationships are different. This is literally 2 characters in the background that are never mentioned but somehow people are still making a fuss over it. Republicans are just blatantly saying that gay people shouldn’t exist in any capacity and somehow keep arguing that they’re not homophobic
That is not what I am saying and you know it. What you’ve just said isn’t a bad faith interpretation of my comment, it’s just a complete misinterpretation of it. They should be treated the same way as straight relationships are on screen. That is the exact point I’m trying to make. But because they often get highlighted with specific attention even if it isn’t a main point of a story or a main character, it 𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒎𝒔 like pandering even if that is t the intent of the creators.
Where’s the “pandering” here. It’s literally 2 characters in the background and yet homophobes are losing their shit anyway. So no, your argument is that they shouldn’t be mentioned at all because of this is “pandering” then what possible representation could not be seen as “pandering”
74 is saying the exact opposite of what you keep accusing them of saying here. They’re saying that while the intentions may be genuine it’s often poorly executed as it is here and that seems like pandering even when it isn’t. They’re saying literal exact opposite of the point you’re somehow getting.
Yeah it’s observable and usually is the result of overpopulation or incorrect sex ratios in an area for that given species. It’s what happens when a species has hit its peak in its environment. We fucked up the whole planet killed off all the roaming buffalo destroyed most natural formed bio diverse forest for mono culturally agriculturally purposes where are the most successful species on earth at this point so of course now we have nothing better to do.
You’re creating a fake rule. Most gay people vote democrat bc republicans for a very long time stopped them from having the equal right to marriage, but just because you vote democrat, that doesn’t make you a liberal. Most gay people are more left than liberal, you just don’t actually know what that word means. Donald Trump is a liberal conservative.
But don't the same people also say it's pandering when they make the main characters are gay or make the main point of the story about gayness? Also the reasons a lot of times gay couples and shown in short clips is because some countries don't allow them to be shown any longer in media.
Yep, this mingled with the blatant sexualization of the queer community by bigots who are projecting. I’ve seen dozens of instances of horny straight people having sex in inappropriate public places (like changing rooms) and never once any gay people. The call is coming from inside the house
It quite literally can be naturally occurring. It’s called adopting. Image you are a women and you love another women in the village and it’s not frowned upon because social standards have not been set, and you find an orphaned child and decide to raise it as your own. There ya go. Natural occurrence. You ppl are dumb 💀
If bro doesn’t want to talk about sexuality to children, then they can go ahead and say the same comment about every movie from Cinderella to Shrek to Indiana Jones to Star Wars. The idea that it’s safe to show straight romantic relationships but not gay ones reeks of internalized homophobia and forced sexualization of the queer community
If you can simply say “some kids have a mom and a dad, some kids have 2 moms, and some kids have two dads” and leave it at that for your younger kids than you as the parent are the sensitive one, not us. If everyone told their kids that plain reality instead of pushing their own homophobic views onto their kids, the world would be a better place. Homophobia is taught 100%
I'm not gonna continue to argue people about this. Yall act like you know how I feel based off a comment I made on a post. All i'm saying is that I think this is a little excessive to call him a loser or a terrible person just because a man who grew up in a completely different generation feeling uncomfortable. Talking about the differences between gay or straight can be a difficult concept for older people. And telling me I'm not LGBTQ+ bc u don't agree with my opinion is fucked.
We get cruel to the same FUCKING DIPSHITS like you who think it’s okay to threaten and kill and ridicule for simply EXISTING. We’ve tried being nice, we’ve tried being kind but enough is enough. So yes we will actively hate and fight against those who wish us harm. Do you just be prepared and sleep with one eye open.
Okay it is one thing to not like my opinion, it is another thing entirely to accuse me of believing that I believe any of those things. As I said in my original comment i'm a part of the LGBTQ+ community and i've dealt with my fair share of homophobia as well, from my own family. I would never say ANYTHING like that! There was never a threat or ridicule involved here at all!
It's not self defense it's fighting fire with fire. It doesn't solve the problem it makes it fucking worse! If we want to be seen as human beings then we can't be acting like we are superior to straights, or superior to people who lived in a different time than us! We don't know the things they went through the same way they don't know what we go through. It's generational. And remember, one day you'll be the old person with strong opinions about better days.
exactly! No one else's business! I'm not gonna say he was right to make this public statement but he's a celebrity! Things get twisted around and made up and spoken about constantly, and if you didn't have a conversation with Snoop yourself, then you can't take this post and say you know all about his opinions.
Fr. Imagine saying you’re lgbt and defending a literal millionaire who agreed to an interview just to talk about how shocked and disgusted he was to see lgbt women in a kids movie. Like he’ll literally go back to his normal cushy life tomorrow without once thinking about how many fans he insulted. Lgbt defending him is as wild as a black person saying they can see why the Jim Crow laws were necessary to help white people “feel more comfortable”
