Imagine a portion of the money you made from your first recordings being used to buy back those recordings. You’re paying for your own shit. Crazy. It’s a good business decision because she has about 1-5 more years of super fame so she’ll easily make it back off mostly those recordings alone but still crazy. Idk how I’d feel about giving my money to people for MY shit. Crazy. Did I say crazy enough? Good for her though I guess
WHAT A STRONG, INSPIRING WOMAN AND THE MEN IN THESE COMMENTS ARE THE KIND OF MYSOGINISTIC DISGUSTING PEOPLE WOMEN HAVE TO FEAR EVERY DAY OF OUR LIVES. if womens success makes you uncomfortable, it’s best that you seek therapy and reflect on who you are as a human. CONGRATULATIONS TAYLOR!!!!
She lied the whole time. And her fans ate it up and continue repeat her lies. If she had signed a 10 year contract, she would have owned them outright at zero cost. She wanted 7 years. Because they wouldn’t give them to her for 7, she spun the entire “stolen masters lies”. Wake up Swifties, mother is a liar.
she’s the industry now that she has control, they weren’t offering any deal where she got 100% control over her own music and work, including music vids and concert movies, until it didn’t mean anything to them because the taylor’s versions were worth more. NOW they sold it to her in a deal where she has full control over everything she’s made. they wanted to control her and she made her own versions till they got popular enough to where they no longer could control her or wanted to.
they weren't offering any deal where she got 100% control over her own music and work, including music vids and concert movies, until it didn't mean anything to them because the taylor's versions were worth more. So they were offered back to her to buy because nobody was listening to them since she released Taylor’s Version. So they weren’t making money on them. Now that Taylor has them again, fans will start listening to them and they’ll be worth more. There’s talk of combining the TVs and OGs on streaming but it’s in the works.
Ok? That’s how the industry works. Just cus it’s her name doesn’t mean she owns all the music. Countless producers and writers are used. Also countless label employees promoted her stuff, especially in the early days. I don’t get the swift hype. Musically mid, and as a person just a bland capitalist
she didn’t own it at all, they sold it, and she’s a big enough star to where she should not have to be controlled by her past recording company. NO artist should be toxically controlled by their recording company and should be free to get the profits they deserve and do what they want with their music. yes the industry has been like that but should NOT be anymore which is why she’s doing this.
You’re right she didn’t own it before, but she does now. That’s what the legal fight was over back in 2019. Majority of artists do not own their own work in the industry though - which I agree, is wrong. We’re saying the same exact point I think so I’m not sure what this conversation is about anymore. 🫤
i know and maybe i'm salty that my folklore cardigan looks like a rats nest but she seriously does not need the same profit margins as a little indie band and i wouldn't even mind paying $80 for a good quality thing but i don't even touch the 1989 tv merch i got cause it feels horrible
The re-recordings started as a personal project for her. The fans were the ones who said they would support her and stopped streaming and buying the original albums, and encouraged her to keep releasing the Taylor’s Version re-recordings. She also put vault tracks on those TV albums, and made new stylistic choices. I would call all the vinyl variants a cash grab, but not the re-recordings themselves.
Bullshit. The re-recording started as a lie when big machine sold their entire catalog. She pretended that her work was stolen and re recording was her way of “reclaiming” her work. BTW she’s always made royalties off her originals. She made millions off the sale, and passed on purchasing them. The entire victim narrative is a lie. And she used her fans to enrich herself.
She actually made it easier for artist’s to own their own work. She’s advocated for artists for years now. She’s the main reason Spotify decided to start paying the artists more because she removed her music from the platform until they agreed to give artists the compensation they deserve.
Masters is the term for the original recordings of the music or something like that. Now she owns them, before she owned them she wouldn’t have been making nearly as much money from them (feel free to fact check me). Now she owns the original copy of the recordings and can use them however she wants
Her albums were all through a label and they sold them to scooter Braun, so she wouldn’t get any money from their sales as he hated her. She was releasing TV versions so she could get the money she deserves from her music as they only owned to recorded songs on the albums that were out, not the songs themselves
When you accept money as an investment in exchange for giving up some ownership, that’s how it works. That’s how business works, in every industry. It was a normal contract and she’s been lying for years just to make more money off her dumb fans by pretending there was something nefarious in it. She could have had her masters years ago but turned it down because she wanted a 7 year contract, they wanted a 10 year contract.
a lot of people are very hung up about the money side of it but it wasn't cause of that the big thing with the re-records is that she has full control over how those recordings can be used now instead of having to go through the rights holders who did get in her way a couple times and didn't let her use some recordings
i totally agree that it's in general a very standard industry practice, they get a share of the profits and you get a studio, tour money, connections, support, marketing, etc which makes the cut a lot less awful than it's made out to be but in this case she mainly wanted to have the rights back and prob to be a little petty too
Okay so if I knew as little as you did, I’d be just as annoyed and confused too. But her old record label, who practically raised her, was selling her stuff to someone they knew she particularly didn’t enjoy working with. That would piss anyone off. So she offered to buy her own work from her label for the same price and they said no to her. That’s just a huge “fuck you” to people you grew up around, worked intimately with, and trusted.
She wanted out of her contract because they were threatening to sell her stuff. And they did. So she left. I think it is pretty simple. They could’ve just sold it to her if they wanted the money and kept her on their label but they tried to strong arm her and I think any person who is capable of practicing compassion would understand that her situation was a shitty one to be in
They offered to GIVE it to her for free. She turned them down. Compassion? Wake up. You’re right they did sell their company, which she knew was coming and her family profited off of as they were part owners in big machine. All the receipts are out there. She lied again and again to make money off her fans based on a series of lies and false narratives to make you all believe she’s some victim. You all are pathetic.
It was not for free and there were stipulations in the contract she did not agree with. So no. It’s not that simple. The internet is free if you’d like to educate yourself on the entire matter. You sound very emotionally upset for someone who clearly doesn’t care. You’re exactly the type of person she writes songs about aka….Cassandra.
She never had the opportunity to buy her masters back without any clauses she didn’t agree with, what part of that isn’t clicking with you? All this “wake up” talk is old. It’s been years. She put out her TVs, made money off them, let the SVs suffer not making money, and then was presented an opportunity to buy her masters back with no stipulations. And now we’re here :) Swifties are happy. We got exactly what we wanted and fully support Taylor. So….you can leave now
She explained it pretty well. She wanted to leave in 2018 when her contract with big machine ended. She signed this 13 year contract when she was 15. When the contract was expiring, she wanted to purchase her work before moving on to another label. She didn’t want to resign with them at all. They wouldn’t let her buy back her work and said that she could only resign with them and earn one album back for every album she recorded and stay with them for 10 more years. She knew they would be sold to
another man she hated, scooter and that the label would be owned by him. She probably offered 7 years at one point out of desperation and they argued back and forth. She said fuck this I’m not working for these people who I make up most of their income and they pay me 10% when this other label is offering me 50%+ and ownership of my work, and she signed there anyways out of principle. She knew she could re-record and did that instead so she wouldn’t continue to be owned and used by big machine.
Your screenshots literally say “agreed provided that TS materials would be subject to the terms and conditions…..” which are the terms and conditions she did not agree with. Notice how she also wanted 7 years and then pushed back and wanted 10 years (which is exactly what #22 said). It’s over dude. You clearly don’t like Taylor, weren’t around in 2018 when this whole thing went down and are ignorant on the past 7 years where Taylor’s Version is involved. So please go do something productive.
Dude, real talk, I’d be embarrassed if I was willing to go that low with insults over a conversation that did not affect me. I kinda feel bad for people like you. Only because it would be so draining to get so angry all the time over something so insignificant. If your identity was revealed and your friends and family saw this, I can’t imagine you’d be too happy. You’d probably lash out again but at them tbh..
Still, goes to show how easy it is to be the ugliest version of yourself when you can hide behind a screen and your anonymity like a coward. Anyways.. just thought you deserved to hear that. It could make you a better person. Or maybe it’ll just make you angrier. Likely the latter, but it’s never too late to change
