It would have been cute if the album name wasn’t “man’s best friend.” Women have been compared to dogs for centuries (hence the word bitch and how it’s primarily used against women.) but yeah it’s just distasteful in our current political climate. We are already moving backwards with legislation and we’re seeing a dangerous rise in conservatism which centers misogynistic views. Sabrina is a wonderful artist, but she made a big mistake with that.
I can understand seeing it from that perspective, but if Ben Shapiro ( for example) were to see the album he would use it as a talking point to further his misogynistic views on women. He (and people like him) view women as just women, not individuals. Unfortunately, Ben Shapiro has a large audience along with people from the daily wire and Fox News so this kind of album being mainstream can be harmful even if it doesn’t seem like it’s that deep.
then he just sucks at media literacy. people that actually understand why the cover and title are what they are, can combat that. as women, we cannot be afraid to speak our minds or make jokes just bc it can be used against us wrongfully. that’s exactly what they want from us.
He does for sure, and I hear your point, but we are currently under the Trump administration and mainstream artists specifically need to be careful with how they use their platforms to spread messages. Music used to spark rebellion and be used as a political tool to unite the classes, so it definitely holds power over people’s opinions. Honestly we will have to wait for the album to drop to know her full intentions behind it.
It’s not misogynistic, but can reinforce misogynistic stereotypes. And conservatives don’t quite have puritanical views. They’re very similar, but puritans are more intense. You can google the difference if you want specifics, but this new age conservative stuff that’s going around is basically just having asshole views. The women stay “in a women’s place” and the men hold all the power in relationships, but conservative millennial men are sex positive when it benefits them.
my big comment against “men having all the power” is that they should also then be the only ones paying for everything. Such as; taxes, mortgages, all meals, all clothing, all jewelry, my car, my kids clothes and all their food(and if we’re going fully conservative we will have 6), and all the schooling that our kids will go through. As a woman I shouldn’t have to lift a finger right?
“The Sabrina Carpenter song "Looking at Me" is not explicitly about sex, but it does contain suggestive lyrics and themes that could be interpreted as having sexual undertones. The song explores themes of attention, confidence, and potentially flirtatious interactions. While some may find the lyrics provocative”
Yes bc Google AI is the best source!! Songs about sexuality sex are WILDLY different but again you’re entitled to your own opinion. Please don’t bash others for liking her music, you’re literally taking time out of your day to hate on a celebrity who doesn’t even know who you are. Have a good one
