I’ve noticed in my short life that some people just like to hate things. I’m a recovering hater. So, I know how good it feels to see something people seem to like and shit all over it. Especially if I could find a relatively reasonable way to justify it. I’d never actively looked up a Beyonce song in my life and man did it feel amazing to say she sucked and watch people get upset. I was just miserable though. Misery loves company. So just ignore the haters you guys. They’ll say anything.
You are not the entire world. Get your hand out of your ass and realize you are not the majority of the population. I don’t listen to her either but she is a very well known and very much listened to artist! Popularity is JUST popularity, (it’s a fact if something is in a majority, popular,) it doesn’t mean it’s good or you have to like it. It’s just a fact she is popular.
Well, duh. I’m not even talking about that. I’m saying that the album name was stolen. But also, we shouldn’t be blaming women for sexualizing themselves in art industries because they literally often have to sexualize themselves in order to make an income. If we don’t start blaming systemic patriarchy rather than individual women, nothing will ever change and everyone bashing her cannot call themselves a feminist. We should feel bad for her if anything.
Details are important- the art industry specifically. It’s not their fault but if you look at data (who is the most famous), it’s the women that are wearing more feminine attire/makeup. Society simply pays attention to them more, thus they make more and it’s DIFFICULT to make money as an artist. It’s not misogynistic because it’s just the pure truth, I’m not “should-ing” women. Ofc they don’t have to sexualize themselves, but systemic misogyny is the reason they do. Hope that makes sense
I used to not know much about this topic either. Here are some sources on this topic, so you can educate yourself on what misogyny actually is in the art world: https://breakingdownpatriarchy.com/episode-50-patriarchy-in-art-history-with-dr-danielle-stewart/ . Self-sexualization is due to sexism, but it IS better now than 20 yrs ago. https://www.genadmission.org/articles/girls-just-wanna-have-fun-the-sexualization-of-female-stardom
