why are SO MANY cat people so unhygienic? this is not a post against cats nor people who like them. its about people who say shit like "cats are so clean!" but not clean their house or shower for weeks on end, and eat food their cat pawed at/licked HOW

Personally haven’t met anyone like this but would assume because that a lot of cat people are introverted and dont get out the house much. A cousin of mine has super mega real ocd and loves cats and doesn’t go out too much but shes like always cleaning shit.

Never once met a single cat lover living in the conditions you describe. But I know a ton of dog owners who are nasty as hell. Pee smelling house, dog fur on everything, everything stinks from the dog, slobber on shit - often discoloring it after a while, water all over the floor from them drinking. And this is coming from someone who works with animals and pets for a living. Everytime I dog sit (nearly every week) I’m shocked by how dog people live.

Yeah, I use to have cats and dogs and honestly they’re both unhygienic. All animals are really even with maintenance. I personally like to keep my dogs crate trained.

Cats give people parasites that make them more lenient on that kinda thing I think

ok i was WONDERING. if its enough to make their prey like the scent of them, what would that do to a human?

i have met so so so many, and its funny bc it doesnt seem to matter about age, gender, political party, etc. we are talking unflushed toilets, dead birds in sinks, loaded cat litter, and anime con levels of BO on days theyre expecting guests over. and if your cousin loves cats, thats fine. i mean the ones who are OBSESSED with their cats, think cat piss "doesnt have a smell", and think cats are superior to any other pet/lowk dislike or even hate other animals

and secondly, IM an introvert and try to keep a very clean house/shower everyday. im at home a lot so the importance of a clean space is even more vital to me

again, this post is not about cat lovers, its about a coworker i had who would come into work unshowered, smelling like cat piss and covered in hair, who served people food like that. one whos cat would pee on everything if the pillows were moved (and who admitted she was hoping the cat would just die soon? like wtf). a republican who "let them hunt for half their meals" and liked how self-sufficient her cats were, so got rid of the litterbox and ended up with piss and shit on everything

this is animal abuse pure and simple, and i have plenty of other stories. ive never met any dog owners like this, but im sure they exist. the problem is, i dont think cats are as "easy" as theyre made out to be. i think people are more likely to get them on impulse without realizing what a 20 year commitment like that really means, and the animals suffer for it. like get a houseplant if you want something in your house that has next to no needs or requirements

i dont think that everyone who gets a cat is like this. ive said this several times. but theyre treated like a good pet for lazy people, and i think lazy people (who were probably unhygienic in the first place) are the worst people to have these animals

if you mean how it works in mice, yes it does: https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.0608310104 im not saying it has the same effect on humans, the infection reacts differently to different species (being fatal to monk seals for example) but ive wondered if those infected dont "notice" the ammonia smell in cat piss. its pretty damn strong to some and goes unnoticed by others
