Hahaha yes it’s normal, there are 100 ways you can get herpes. And you can get it anywhere. It’s a skin condition that most people have

no, they are not, they’re a sign of herpes and usually appear around/on the mouth. canker sores are similar but they are usually in the mouth and are harmless… idk if you mixed them up or sum

this is a college app, meaning they're most likely in college, herpes in college is not the same as childhood as it indicates unprotected sex, which is judge worthy and also hilarious that they're asking this question 😭

No, it doesn’t necessarily indicate unprotected sex. OP could have gotten a cold sore from kissing or sharing a drink with someone who has the virus. Either way, we should educate people, not shame them and perpetuate a negative stigma of something that is extremely common, manageable, and not life-threatening.

i wasn't even shaming just saying cold sores = herpes, i thought it was funny that some people don't know that still and that they're even asking the question at all

they're not uncommon but they are a direct indication of a viral infection. normal by incidence? yeah, probably. normal by your body's standard of health? probably not.

It’s estimated that cold sores affect over half of Americans between ages 14-49. Personally, I would classify that as normal. OP was obviously seeking reassurance on something that is incredibly common.
