Okay. Please don’t hate me. I don’t live chronically online. But when did it become weird to refer to women as “females” like I get it’s not the most normal, but I never thought it was that ick. Did something happen?

I wasn’t op of that post btw. Just seen people get a lot of hate for it and I didn’t really get why people were vitriolic against it.

I’ll give u a real answer lol. Some girls believe that being called “females” is degrading because people normally don’t ever refer to males as “males” and instead men. Some women feel the men call them females in a way of being lesser 🤷🏾‍♂️ pretty sure from what I’ve heard

People do normally refer to males as such

the hate is twofold. primarily it's because these days there's a very certain kind of man who makes a point of saying 'females' to intentionally be degrading. secondarily, it IS degrading. it makes it sound like you're referring to an animal or a specimen of some kind. it's just odd when 'women' is right there.

This is a better explanation than anything else I’ve gotten. Thank you

Both genders do it. Still degrading to both sides. We’re not out here referring to dogs (wolves, foxes, whatever) as “canines”. It IS a normal scientific/medical term. Socially however, it carries a tone of disrespect, objectification, and equates someone to an animal.

I’m a woman and I use female interchangeably. Idk. It’s synonymous

Just to add context, I think women also get annoyed because of the double standard. There are many men that will call men “men” and women “females” and the difference between the two does denote something about how they see women.
