Another thing: I know I’m an adult and it’s just for kids. But I hate that excuse “just for kids.” That’s code for we don’t have put in any effort. I’m tired of boomers in charge cheapening culture for a buck! They did that here and with the OG Teen Titans. Stop making slop. Stop assuming kids don’t deserve complex stories. Stop making adorkable content! Stop making effeminate male characters! Stop inserting sex into children’s content. Stop glorifying anxiety!
Oh and while I’m flirting with cancelation: There are gay dad parents in this version. Why? It’s a show where the protagonist and antagonist are children and it’s from their POV - largely. Irl kids with gay parents don’t register it as unique or special, so why do it here? It’s fodder for the audience and it’s a cheap way to build a following within certain communities. It’s lazy and frankly insulting that they’re written as such stereotypes. smh just cancel it and remove it from cannon
Last things I promise. The audience doesn’t have a lower standard for female leads. You don’t need to make the lead a prodigy all-knowing all-powerful quasi demi god to prove she’s just as tough as the guys. The “hero’s journey” applies to young girls too! Have her struggle, overcome, fall and redeem herself. Don’t baby girls by this false empowerment, self-actualized shit. Irl successful women work damn hard! Nothing is given to them. And at least the ones i know: they see men as peers.
And I can’t believe I’m saying this: Stop race swapping! At this point it’s idealizing genocide. No problem with Indians, or representation of race and cultures in media. However, this was existing IP. Advocate for making specific content if that’s your agenda but don’t take an existing story and people and give them a whole new identity for the sake of representation. Im not even Asian and that shit pissed me off on their behalf.
