No, because when I was involved in church all throughout the week and prayed every day my life got increasingly worse.

It’s easier to believe in god when you leave organized religion and read philosophy. “Sky daddy” is ridiculous to me but aquinas’ views of God being the underlying essence of fully actualized potential that manifests a reality of agents attempting to fulfill the extent of their own potential (i.e. imitate godliness)? I kinda fw it.

No, after my childhood went and the fact that my dad’s dad is a pastor, I’ve never been able to believe. It doesn’t help with how much hate is spread in gods name. I just hope I can find something I can believe in.

If you don’t mind me asking what did it for you? For me it was Moses splitting the Red Sea. I asked them so many questions but they could never answer besides “god has his ways”.

Catholic by faith, Roman by structure. Religious identity is different from institutional identity. The question itself makes no sense since they aren’t comparable.

I just give up completely. Religion is how a lot of ppl keep up hope. I prayed for me and my family’s health and was not answered and I lost hope. And I don’t really care for the “He brings you challenges so you can overcome them” storyline, because I don’t want to believe in someone who would hurt me.

I wonder what Aquinas thinks of someone FWing his work. He’s canonically a saint so he’s likely aware of it, is he proud? Bemused? Concerned with the fate of humanity? Idk bro, but I also FW the idea.

That’s a tragic story, I will pray that someday you will understand where God was in all of that. It does sound like you were taught some wrong things about God though. If ever you want to hear the experience of someone who converted the other way feel free to message me, or DM if you want.

It gives you a chance to trust him and let him take control of your life. If there wasn’t any suffering, why would we need God to take care of us?

It’s like crate training a puppy. You have to solve your own problems, he just gives you what you need to get it done

exactly. He provides for us what we need, but also gives us the option to have free will.

But my suffering has turned me AWAY from him. God being omnipotent, all knowing, he should have known that my illness would have that effect

upvote 1 downvote

are you resisting him? Resisting him is going to have the opposite effect then trusting and having faith in him

First of all I am so sorry for things you went thru and u didn’t deserve none of that. But please don’t let man’s evil nature determine your faith with God. Remember we all have free will. And I do agree on how many hypocrites spread the gospel. But bro don’t keep us all in the same box we are not all the same. Love you bro

I know everybody’s different, unfortunately it feels like hate speaks louder. I have a few friends from HS who are very connected to their faith and I love that for them. But thank you, I appreciate your kind words❤️

So many hatful people believe themselves to be ‘christian’s’ and it’s extremely unfortunate. You cannot truly commit to Jesus Christ and be a worldly person. Worldly in the context of not practicing the fruits of the spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. People who don’t practice this, unfortunately, are not completely devoted to Christ.

It was a hard sell from the start, what would be my final straw was telling my cousin I didn’t think it was bad that two guys could love each other and she sobbed over my eternal damnation. We were 9. She grew out of it too though.

Lmao she has her own brain and religious trauma to figure it out. She’s a poly mother of 20 now and I’m childless, why would I have more influence over her than her own experiences 😂😂 my trans brother figured it out without me too! I know it might be a difficult concept for you that people can make up their own minds without external influence from peers but it happens.
