Is it bad to be upset when medical imaging shows nothing is wrong? Like it feels like I wasted my, then doctors, resources, and everyone’s time for an issue I’ve been dealing with for years that suddenly got very very bad and caved to see a professional

I don’t think it’s bad at all. I’ve also taken a million tests and I still feel like I’m just chasing symptoms. It’s fucking infuriating to scrape together the time and energy to subject yourself to the American medical system, just to find a dud. It feels like you were punished for doing the thing that everyone tells you will help. But anger is the proper response to injustice, you have a right to it imo

don't think of it as "caving," for starters. if it was bad enough that you sought help, you needed the help! as for being upset, it makes complete sense that you'd feel like your own time, but the doctors and other medical staff's job is to take the imaging, so you didn't waste their time.

‘Caved’ as in I was able to manage it (for years) up until that point, made the appt, it started to get better so I almost cancelled and was told to go anyways. But you’re right- I should change how I think. They just gave hope that there was a reason and fix for an issue only for imaging to determine ‘normal’

I know the carousal of insurance and money and referral and second opinions is a nightmare but don't be deterred from trying to find other healthcare providers who are willing to work with you to find a solution. a million times easier said than done, but I've heard so so so many cases where people didn't get the diagnosis they needed until like years into the process

But I think imaging is pretty cut and dry, no? Like I had an x-ray that was normal, was sent to a specialist who was sure it was ‘this’ so insurance covered an MRI for that to be normal, I also had bloodwork done. What more can I even ask to do?

you'd think it would be, but the issue could always be something else, somewhere else, or just missed entirely by the first set of doctors. i'm not a medical professional and this isn't medical advice but I'm very familiar with people whose conditions were missed by many doctors.
