Basically the card got stuck bc it’s bent a bit. My mom is in an Alzheimer’s home and I have to handle all of her affairs. The card wasn’t even issued by this bank it’s from another bank. They demanded that she be there even after I provided IDs and a notarized POA.

So then they decided to keep her card even after they took it out, so I called the police to file a civil dispute and see if they could get it back. They tried but they still didnt give it back

that's valid they're def wrong, i don't know about banking laws and whatnot but that's not morally correct in the slightest especially if you tried explaining beforehand, that sucks im sorry

They took my mom’s debit card who has Alzheimer’s disease and basically told me to hit the road, you can’t treat ppl like that.

Yeah they can if your POA isn't on file at the bank

Had a copy on hand, as well as my 2 IDs, one for me one for her, let’s take care of this here and now, they had none of it. It’s not even their bank’s card, it was another one’s. And the cop said this is fucked up too

Like I literally used their ATM out on the street, and they stole her card bc it broke. I don’t owe them shit.

It wasn't already on file though. But keep that energy

Ain't no way you handle shit like that right then. Cut it out. When you first became POA you were supposed to do that

If I need a power of attorney on file in advance with every single company who owns an ATM I ever use to make sure they don’t steal it there’s something wrong here.

Why in the hell would you use some random ass ATM?

There’s thousands of banks in this country, how could anyone expect OP to have a POA on file beforehand with banks he’s never used before.

Man look you said the shit broke. It's so not unheard of they just confiscate the parts either. You went Karen calling the cops. Did you even call any banking people first? Or just straight to the cops 🤣

I wouldn't use no random fucking bank knowing I'm POA either. I'd find a bank that POA with. Or circumvent what I need to do to get cash

I mean it’s not like I called 911, i called their non-emergency line and explained the situation and said this is a civil dispute. So they sent an officer over to try to figure this out. The whole thing was very professional. The officer said to report it to the BBB and the consumer financial protection bureau
