I have been professionally diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) - formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD), for about 10 years. I have alters. Ask me anything and I’ll answer honestly.

One of my best friends has DID, and he’s described his headspace/inner world to me a few times. If you don’t mind answering, what’s yours like if you have one?

Also thanks for making yourself available, because I really believe that transparency is so important for understanding the people around us and in our life

I had an employee with this and he was so open with me about it. Obviously at work I can’t interview him about it, bc that’s just not it. But what does it look like on a daily basis for you? And can you predict who comes out? Any time we had an Agressive customer, his alter will come out. That alter is the protector. Which I thought was really cool. Do you prefer us to call you by the name of the alter that is “out”?

Do you have a sense of “self” that watches the interactions with the world just through different lenses? As in are you (the person I’m talking to now) always aware of what’s going on just from a different perspective. Or is it more like you idk, go to sleep and wake up later?

Mine has a couple different parts. There’s the meeting room, where there’s a large round table. Each alter has their own room or space they hang out in. Each matching their aesthetic or job

On a daily basis, I’m usually the one out for most of it. I am the host, meaning I just front the most. We can’t really predict who comes out. It just happens. Sometimes we don’t even know who we are when we first come out. And we would like to be called by our own separate names, but we also know that’s not very safe all the time.

That’s good to know! I think next time I talk to him, I’ll ask him more about the names of the alters that are present at work. I think there’s three. The host, the protector, and the child. Does it get exhausting being the host and having all of these other people inside or having a shift? I know based on events, I can see just the host in one shift. Sometimes I see and interact with three different people.

It’s both sometimes. Sometimes I have no clue what’s happening with the others or my body, and I’m just doing my own thing. Other times, I’m like an observer or even a co-pilot, and am able to see and interact with the world, even if someone else if there
