American individualism is quietly killing community, church, and family. We worship autonomy and confuse it with freedom. We let those in Tech create controlled substitutes for human connection, following and community. We made a big mistake.

Honestly, I may not fully agree, but I read your reply in the comments and I gotta say, I respect it. You know what you’re putting out there and you genuinely sound knowledgeable.

We?? Let?? This isn't a terrible take but it's pretty damn American individualism to act like I should've personally done something about the slipping power of the church on the commonfolk

The Catholic Church wrote an encyclical about this, it’s called the heresy of Americanism. Essentially the United States was founded on the principle of individualism unified under a common moral principle. But as time passed and the common moral principle faded, the United States became defined by Atomistic Individualism, which has led to increasing isolation and purposelessness.

You locked in on church and its effect on commonfolk - which is antithetical to America itself. America’s independence started from wanting a separation from “The” church in favor of personal and communal relationships with God. The church, power and hold on common folk never existed in America. Certainly not within the last hundred years. I'm talking about lost connection, following and community. Which were provides via freedom, church (communally, of any denomination) and family.

Every man is the sole arbiter of their life, there’s no community because there’s no commonality, no connection between isolated individuals all going their own autonomous way. It’s actually quite bleak when you think about it.
