because the officials are all corrupt. they want as much money as possible. look at monopolies for an example. what you're describing actually does the opposite of what you want: when one company/person/entity owns all the means of products (horizontal integration) they can charge literally whatever they want. the way America is now, competition ensures that companies are constantly trying to out-cheap eachother to gain customers. the reason everything seems so expensive is inflation and Trump's tariffs. here's one last example: Amazon operated at a lost for several years for the sole purpose of driving the competition out of business. they could do that because they already had tons of money. the point in that is that if Amazon doubled their prices, they'd immediately lose customers to all the competitors. in summary, the flaw in your logic is you're assuming a perfect government, which jusr doesn't exist
I’ll give credit to Trump for one thing: he’s really opened up Americas eyes to how much corruption exists. But would it actually be terrible if there were one gov grocery brand? And if essential food stuff was produced under one umbrella? How many egg companies are truly needed? If there are few of certain types efficiency can be concentrated. Maybe gov is the best to run it. I think a sovereign wealth fund owning the companies is best and this companies can act independently as they see fit
