Why do white people constantly talk about their whiteness when they’re in a place with MOSTLY poc?

Like I’m native and I work at a casino (yes the stereotypes are true 💀) and on the rare occasions when we have white co-workers come in, they always talk about how they feel like they don’t fit in because THEY’RE the minority. It comes up a lot in conversations but it feels almost like white guilt sort of, or they assume all the native people hate them because they’re white.

This seems like a very specific situation

Ooooh I see. Yeah I totally get what you’re saying. Most white people aren’t used to being a minority so it’s uncomfortable for them. I’m white myself and felt this a bit when I went to St.Croix to see family. The island is a majority black and it was the first time I’d truly been around almost zero white people. Also got called “colonizer” by a random lady at an ice cream stand. Probably a joke but it was the first time I’d ever gotten overt comments about my race. Very informative experience

Or idk maybe informative is the wrong word. I just thought it gave me some perspective that I’d been lacking. Just a tiny bit of it anyway
