if they knew exactly when I was going to be there, I'd go up and knock. if there was any uncertainty or a time window, I'd text first

I text “I’m 5 away” then “I’m outside” then I go to the door to knock if they haven’t already come out to meet me or unlocked the door.

I always knock. They might not have their phone immediately on hand or have it on silent, and I know I definitely want people knocking on my door instead of texting me

I agree. If where leaving to go somewhere. I just text or call. If I’m going inside then I text when I’m on my way. Then I’ll ring the doorbell. If no answer then I call.
