I have a 2-year-old cat in my loft and am bringing home a 5-year-old boy cat this weekend! I worry about my cat feeling sad about the newcomer but also hate leaving her alone while I work. For those who got a second cat for their cat—do you recommend it?

put the cat in a separate room for as long as possible if thats an option, a bathroom or something will do. once theyre in there for a bit get a blanket or something similar that has the cats scent on it and let your other cat smell it, while doing something they enjoy (giving treats, petting, playtime etc..) so they associate positive things with the cat. do the same with the other cat, and try to gradually introduce them.

do you think my current cat will be upset with me? I really want her to have a friend since I work during the day

honestly probably not, i dont think theyre smart enough to associate any negative feelings with the cat with you. if she does start to lash out (more than just hissing at the cats smell, stuff like biting and scratching you/acting strange) it may be a behavioral issue and she might have to go to the vet, im no professional though
