Dorms are a good transition from living with your parents for a few reasons IMO: 1. It’s easy to get lonely living by yourself without an established friend group. You have a built in social circle living in the dorms 2. There’s less to worry about. Your only concern in a dorm is keeping your personal space clean, usually just a bathroom and bedroom. 3. Similarly to #2, in a dorm you don’t have as many chores like cooking, dishes, etc. that would would have to manage yourself in an apartment

4. Commute 5. An RA can help resolve roommate conflicts that you would have to work through yourself in an apartment

That being said, there’s benefits to an apartment: 1. More space 2. Easier to have substances not allowed in some dorms like alcohol if you’re into that 3. Ability to choose your roommates 4. A kitchen can be an upside if you’re willing to actually cook and clean consistently. Otherwise, food will be more expensive and less healthy than a meal plan. 5. It may be cheaper for certain schools
