Probably because alternative is usually associated with left leaning or liberal majority communities and cowboys, or rural culture is often associated with the opposite. It’s an interesting topic. I guess it’s also because being goth isn’t a profession but being a cowboy is, and is the norm in more areas than being goth is. There’s probably a lot of historical factors to what people consider alternative or not
