Changing genders I personally don’t really care. I do think it is incorrect a little but again don’t really care unless you push it onto others. but it should not be told to children that it is an option. Kids make stupid decisions all the time. Kidd have not had enough time to think for that stuff . As for the personality yeah many traits make be dislike people but making everyone know your gay is just weird and it makes me dislike them. I don’t tell everyone I fuck girls. It’s weird

Homophobics only care when you try to push your agenda. If someone’s personality is being gay or being trans I do hate them. If they are telling kids they can change genders I hate them but if they are a normal person who happens to be gay or trans or whatever I couldn’t care less

I would argue “I don’t support it” means the person is homophobic, because rather than “I tolerate it” it implies they actively dislike it, but don’t take action to oppose it. In any case, I think #4 is less harmful than other homophobes who are quite outspoken against it.

What is your objection to telling children they can change genders? Is it because you think it’s factually incorrect (for any age), or because you think the concept of changing genders is okay but inappropriate for children? Why do you hate someone whose personality is being trans or gay, and does that extend to any other personality traits?

Kids aren’t idiots but they are inherently dumber than adults there are reasons we have age restrictions on many things.

upvote -3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #6 5w

Kids are not idiots. They are just easily influenced by emotion and their socialization during childhood. We are all the product of our experiences and develop our knowledge and perspectives based on how we see others around us existing and how we were taught to think and “be” growing up. Educating kids on the variety of experiences/gender based relationships people have with their bodies is quite the opposite of pushing an agenda.

upvote 20 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #11 5w

Treating gender as a moral issue, avoiding the topic or steering kids in the direction of hetero/cis normativity is more manipulative than giving them information about what potential feelings might mean. Avoiding the topic can make children feel as if they are morally wrong about feeling certain things (such as dysphoria or same sex attraction) and lead to depression and anxiety about their body and feelings.

They still know who they are and what hurts them and what helps them thrive. Trans kids have always existed and will continue to. They know who they are— it’s on us to ensure they are safe to be who they are, without denying them that safety.

Gonna be honest I still don’t agree with what your saying but I do see your point in education. However I hope you can see even if they are educated in this they should not be able to make the decision on those surgery’s or the hormone blockers until at minimum 18+. Puberty blockers are only effective during puberty, and have safely been used in cisgender kids for decades. Secondly, it’s important to note that just because children cannot meaningfully consent to some things (sex, signing a loan, marriage) does not mean that they don’t have ANY understanding of themselves. It progresses with age. By 13, an internal sense of gender is definitely present.

Puberty blockers have been used for (and were developed for) cis kids. Trans kids 100% deserve access to appropriate healthcare. Not every Trans person requires surgery, but that’s not for you to determine. It’s not a simply process by *any* stretch of the imagination and is wildly inaccessible even for adults, and that’s not right. Trans people* (because it’s an adjective, not a plural noun) have existed for all of human history. We have records thousands of years old confirming this.

Elagabulus, Inanna’s Gala priestesses, Māhū, Hijra, Two Spirit People— there are countless examples. Trans people have existed across every time and culture. Look into the YouTube channel “We Have Always Existed”. The term “transgender” may be newer, but transitioning is far from it. We have prehistoric burial grounds of Trans individuals, prehistoric statues, the list goes on.

Yeah, I also subscribe to #2’s statements regarding gender, that there isn’t a fixed number. It’s more like a chart with many dimensions, but the majority of people end up aligning with the gender identity associated with their sex. I think this is the anthropologically and psychologically agreed upon idea, anyways. It’s kind of like asking how many colors there are. There are really as many as you can name.

Gender and sex are not the same and neither are binary nor immutable. Sexuality is complicated as well, and not every Trans person is gay- many are straight. Gender is distinct from chromosomes, which are also complicated and not the only aspect that goes into determining someone’s sex.

Breaking words into etymological roots is not always a trustworthy way to understand their meaning, devoid of context. For example, the term “quarantine” originally refers to 40 days, but came to mean sectioning off people due to illness for any length of time. Another example is how lesbian originally (and can still) referred to those from the island of Lesbos, Greece.

Besides the distinction of gender and sex that’s already been accepted into the majority of scientific and academic fields, the definition of transgender has been expanded since the word was first coined. So the people it refers to today may not have “qualified” 60 years ago.

I would define someone who is transgender much like the APA has in 2018, which is a “an umbrella term encompassing those whose gender identities or gender roles differ from those typically associated with the sex they were assigned at birth”, where gender identity is defined as “an internal sense of being male, female or something else, which may or may not correspond to an individual's sex assigned at birth or sex characteristics”.
