What do you guys think it means if I have had nightmares since childhood with no link to trauma…

Everyone has nightmares sometimes - it’s how your brain processes stressful thoughts & fears. What you eat before bed, watching scary movies or being worried about something makes it more likely.

Not having a regular sleep schedule w/ 7-8 hrs sleep a night will also make this worse.

No dreams. Almost every night since I was kid of illnesses, murder, or worse?

I’m sorry you’ve been experiencing this for so long. Could it be you’ve grown up in an environment where you often didn’t feel physically or emotionally safe?

that's a good point, you can grow up in fight or flight without having been through stereotypical traumas. CPTSD does come with nightmares.

That’s the thing. I had a great childhood. My home life is pretty good. I had a lot of friends that went through a lot of unstable situations but I was pretty oblivious to a lot of things until middle school and even then I wasn’t too aware of everything. I’m the baby of the family too so my family protects me from stuff all the time.

it might be that you do have peaceful dreams but your memory isn't "recording" them because we dream several times a night and don't remember all of them, or maybe it's a night terror situation bc usually children don't remember having night terrors and they usually get less intense but more memorable with age

I wish I couldn’t remember the “dreams.” I’ve also gotten heart rate alerts while I am asleep as well and have woken up in several different states. I have a history of sleepwalking as well.

sleepwalking is fairly comorbid with night terrors
