I mean I thought it was sad because I relate to the guy as well yk and it hits different when you watch a movie that gives you a different perspective but also understanding his feelings

because it’s a story about him finding friends despite his struggle and overcoming his depression/slowly healing? he ultimately has a happy ending. i would say movies like dead poets society or brokeback mountain are a lot sadder.

It’s also opinion based. Just because it wasn’t sad to you doesn’t mean it’s not sad to others who relate to it. For me it was sad because I related to the character and seen myself in a lot of the things he would say or feel. Someone who has overcome something like that from freshman year of high school to freshman year of college now, it made me feel sad because it brought me back to a place I forgot about. Everyone has their own perception of sadness and that was mine.
