In your first few weeks just go up to anyone at lunch, between/during classes and start a conversation. As a very shy person I just asked a girl what her name was and what she was interested in majoring in. Just repeat this, get people’s contact info, and you could have a friend group in literally 2 days

They have them bc it’s either a teammate or roommate or someone from a club

Just keep in mind that most freshman also don’t know anyone and are probably like you- wishing someone would come up to them
