Why do people get pets that need constant attention and decide to just leave them alone, even if it's just a few hours? I feel like common sense should tell you if you don't have the resources to care for them properly you don't get them?

They like the idea/concept of having a pet but do not have interest in actually providing proper care. Sadly the same thing happens with babies. People like the idea/concept of having a cute baby or child and being a parent, but they do not actually have interest in putting in the full time work to provide a good and nurturing environment for a growing human. That’s why so many parents fucking suck. Both are very stupid, shallow, and selfish reasons.

i agree with this except the “even if it’s just a few hours” part; the average cat (idk about other animals) will be fine on its own for 1-8 hours my cat misses me when i go to work but she’s a healthy weight, grooms herself well, and is affectionate when i come home if you meant a specific pet that requires more supervision, feel free to ignore this

Agreed. Had a roommate who apparently neglected their cat in their bedroom enough for it to die without my knowledge until months later

Then got another one (i didn't know because a rule of ours was to keep the pets in the room when one of my roommates who is allergic is home, it was an issue we had with the leasing office)
