ok ok so call me woke or whatever but i am in fact white but its baffling to me how ppl don’t realize that most things that have stigma against them come from racism like… tattoos- inherent to ethnic cultures and are seen as “trashy,” smoking, etc-RACISM

like things that western culture stigmatizes against are all things culturally important to ethnic groups and i can keep going with hair colors and styling and how people dress, music, like everything. And it’s so annoying because some of these things aren’t even old?! but people don’t even realize it??? like smoking plants was indigenous traditionally and it wasn’t until white ppl found it and then said it was “dangerous” BUT ITS NOT AND ITS OLDER THAN ALCOHOL

I think the tattoo one, specifically, is not from racism, but religion. Pagans had tattoos, Judaism and then Christianity said no to distinguish believers. Christianity spread far and wide, and the culture it brought did too. Over time, more recently really, the culture has shifted to be more accepting of tattoos.

exactly like why can’t we (white ppl including me because i cannot be exempt) just wake up and realize ts like the world would probs be a bit better??? like ethnic african cultures are older and more naturally in tuned with the earth and then we have christianity aka wasps primarily fucking shit up ?! genuinely pmo

We all gonna get cancer and die from it eventually. EVERYTHING “gives you cancer” now. I’m gonna smoke and drink and enjoy myself.

I mean, I don’t know if I’d say “more naturally in tune with the earth”, haha, but I’m certain that there’s classist aspects in it too, but racism is so intertwined with classism that it’s impossible to talk about it without mentioning racism too. What made you come to the conclusion that things like tattoos and smoking are ethnic identity pieces?

personally i’m eastern european and in paganistic tradition tattoos were thought of to hold meaning and there’s other cultures globally that have similar practices that even outdate some religions

I don't think anyone is saying you can't... You understand Western culture is the most accepting of all damaging behaviors and lifestyles, right? This is 2026, not 1980. The times are no longer what you're describing. Those folks are far and few.

Christian here, can confirm my anxiety around tattoos came from what my grandmother taught me, then I found out that’s the old covenant so I know it’s not actually against the Bible’s for a Christian to get a tattoo, but by the time I found that out the anxiety had become deeply rooted.
