Perfect Blue is a anime psychological horror/thriller, it can be quite disturbing tho. If you like that check out Mulholland Drive (not anime but still messes with your head, and my favorite of all time) I’d argue Parasite is one of the most essential films ever made if you wanna get into foreign stuff, a great thriller/drama/black comedy. Fargo is a snowy “true” crime black comedy, and if you like that A Simple Plan is quite underrated
Studio Ghibli for Japanese animated movies that fall in the fantasy/anime category. They’re freaking amazing and I highly recommend Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Spirited Away, The Boy and the Heron, etc. If you want a sad one watch Grave of the Fireflies and cry haha… but please watch the others or really any of them at all! You can’t go wrong!!!
There’s also a lot of documentaries on Netflix that were made in the last few years about true crime and cults! Keep Sweet Pray and Obey was shocking, creepy, and well put together. There’s one about the Oklahoma City Bomber, one about Katrina hitting New Orleans (Through Hell and High Water?), one about Waco the American apocalypse, and society of the snow about the rugby(or soccer??) team that crash landed in the Andes and was stuck there having to cannibalize each other…
If you watch either the Oklahoma City bomber or Waco ones you gotta watch the Waco cult one first then watch the OCB one after that because of the crazy connection of 1 man and the utter destruction and tragedy he caused. The two documentaries are both great tho and feature similar faces of professionals and interviewees.
