Anyone else have religious trauma syndrome? Mine is from people telling me that it’s my fault that I’m chronically ill. That everything is “spiritual” , “attention”, and demons. And they would freak out everytime I have a seizure.

I think that’s more trauma from abusive parents. The Bible literally says that sickness is not a punishment for sin so they weren’t actually operating from there. Although I am assuming this was warped Christianity. And no, it’s not your fault that you are sick. I pray you have found people who will confirm that.

There is a sect of Christianity that believes that conditions and diseases are as a result of your own sins, almost like a punishment, which is wild because that’s not biblical. These things happen because we live in a fallen world, but not as a punishment, it’s just the result of the place we live. I’m sorry that people have said those things, I hope you’re doing well

Have you tried fasting and prayer? Seems like a lot of people around you really love you. The Bible says two things clearly; fasting and prayer heals, certain things, and faith the size of a mustard seed can save - even by way of a friend or love one.

My sis had a bunch of chronic stuff her whole life. Sounds like your church screwed you over because there is a specific Bible verse where there is a blind man and people ask Jesus what he or his parents did to make him deserve blindness. Jesus said that he was blind so that God may use him for the world. Back to my sis, she died of cancer but was very religious. Her pain caused others to believe and that suffering strengthened my own faith

Well are you holding onto any unresolved issues?

What does a seizure have to do with unresolved issues?

If you’re holding onto anger, or a deep emotion that’s stuck within your body.

That’s not how seizures work. A healthy person doesn’t just get angry and have a seizure.

Christ didn’t come to punish us, He came to forgive and redeem, so it says a lot about the church you went to.

Hmmmm… I guess that makes sense but then why is there hell?

“hell” is a state of mind. Please create heaven within.

Hell is complete separation from God. The only way to be separated from God is to choose to be, and God loves us enough to give us the free will to choose. We can at any point bypass hell by choosing God, and we can do that because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.

Shut up. Genuinely hate this so much. How about normal real provable medication? This is actively harmful to say to op and you obviously know that.

It’s not harmful. There’s also scientific proof that fasting works and focused mantras rewire your brain, positively. Just because it’s from a book you don’t like doesn’t immediately make it wrong. What does she have to loose? Fast for 3 days and talk to sky daddy.

Fasting to some extent can have positive effects, however randomly suggesting it to someone who you have no idea what their actually health condition is is extremely dangerous. Also fasting didn’t originate from Christianity.

Fasting can just as easily majorly harm someone.

The most harmful thing about this is that op has actively said they have religious trauma and don’t want to keep hearing it, yet you just go ahead with it anyway. You aren’t helping.

Generally, no, it won’t majorly harm someone. The body is designed for survival. So fasting is fine; but starvation not so much.

Never said it originated from Christianity. It’s in many religious texts from many religions. But that’s the point, God has always been here and different cultures experience and document him differently. Likewise truth is the truth no matter where you hear it. OP needs to be open minded and seek out her own connection with Christ. Drown out her friends, family, and other religious folks and just have a 1:1 conversation with God alone.

Putting this in scientific terms for you: even in modern psychology exposure therapy is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy. OP will never exist in a world where religion will take a backseat to her trauma. It’s literally everywhere, even places where you think it’s not. So avoidance isn’t a solution. Exposure and addressing the root cause is.

OP you should give it a shot. It can be as spiritual as you want it. You can even check in with God once per day and that’ll be fine. You may also learn some new things about your body. Like food sensitivities, or cravings caused by parasites. When I fasted (7 days) I learned that I crave sugar during stressful moments and that I had a ton of food related inflammation. I also gained unbelievable mental clarity.

I know this doesn’t help with your trauma, but please don’t ever believe that God is punishing you with your illness. You are so much more than that to Him ❤️
