Cults use initiation rituals as a basis for building trust. Also kinda similar to ppl that go crazy if they found out someone hasn’t seen Star Wars before. I think it could also be something deeper in human nature around tribalism and in-groups/out-groups or wanting to project individual experiences as absolute truths on to other people
I don’t drink. When I was younger, I informed a family member that I didn’t want to drink, and they appeared offended. It was as if they took it personally. They seemed to feel bad because I didn’t drink. Perhaps people aren’t aware of how to handle someone who doesn’t drink because they might perceive it as a reflection of their own character.
