Grew up in a very legalistic (religiously) and radically conservative household. Since I’ve started my college education, I’ve become much more open minded (still religious, just more theologically liberal than parents). More in comments

When it comes to politics, I still lean right, but on a scale of 1-10 (1 being left, 5=independent/neutral, 10 far right) I’m like a 6.5-7. My question is, do you think college education is more of a deciding factor of who a person becomes than what they grow up with? Because I personally feel like college affected me more than my raising.

Oddly enough I was also raised conservative and Catholic by my grandparents. I am neither. However, my 92 & 95 year old grandparents have totally flipped to being liberal, even in more ways than my parents. My grandparents showed me a news article about Intersex and they were so excited to show me this “new gender” (I had to explain)

i think how you grow up defines your issues, and the way you are in college shows how you choose to work with them

I think education in general is a deciding factor, college can be a big one but if you don’t take classes that challenge you politically you won’t change. It also really depends on who you surround yourself with, meeting more like minded people won’t broaden horizons.

I was raised non religious and very liberal. Going to college made me able to see conservatives point of view easier and lessened the deeply rooted prejudice against religion I had.

I wanna add my mom wasn’t against religion, she’d had bad experiences with what she was raised with tho, she never instilled in me to hate religion. I had bad experiences with religious people that made my opinions.

Depends on the person. Some people take in lots of new information and change their worldview from education, some people don't
