Why do I believe the things I do? Because they are supported by strong reasoning and time proven results. Why does voting for a “convicted felon” appeal to me? It doesn’t, but having watched the trial and compared his treatment to any other major political figure I concluded that the conviction was witch hunt specifically engineered to prevent people from voting for him. Do I feel fear when a Muslim is elected? No. I just think his economic and social policies are crazy.
1. I’m not trying to control how you think and feel. However, when someone supports policies that do not work, and have never worked, when someone peddles ideologies that are objectively harmful to the country and humanity, when you vote for someone who doesn’t give a rat’s ass about ACTUALLY following the constitution, I ask you to examine WHY you support these things. I ask you to think about this because it MATTERS. People only worrying about themselves is the path towards injustice
2. I live a relatively stress free life. The idea of the “bleeding heart liberal” who stresses themself out over pronouns and cries when people get them wrong, is rhetoric manufactured by the right wing media machine. Yes, all stereotypes are based in reality, but it’s frankly a pretty stupid argument to tell me to just stop caring as if caring about these issues is somehow detrimental to my wellbeing. Oh wait, didn’t you say that you shouldn’t tell people how to feel?
I don’t believe everybody should believe the exact same things. However, I do believe that everybody should come to their conclusions in a logical manner, taking into account their personal situation and biases, and also taking into account where they get their information from. The vast majority of Americans do not do any of these things because it is mentally challenging to do so and we’ve been taught to “only worry about ourselves”
Yes! This is where being aware of and acknowledging our biases comes into play! I’m willing to bet that you have been fed a shitload of misinformation unknowingly, and probably believed it because it confirmed beliefs that you already held. Information sources on the right and left both skew the optics of the information they present on a massive level. If you’re being fed wrong information, obviously you’re gonna come to different logical conclusions. This is why this stuff is important
1. You are not voting for things that are supported by good results. What the evidence does show is that conservative economic policy has always caused an increase in socioeconomic divide. The “good old days” were actually when we taxed the rich the most we ever have (republicans do not want this). 2. What do you think of trump being confirmed to have abused women and being very obviously a customer of Epstein? Explain why. 3. Why do you think zohrans policies are crazy? Explain why.
I would argue that there is a lot of evidence that conservative economic policy is beneficial to society. An example I can give is lower taxes tend to increase economic prosperity for the whole of society. The rich get richer but the poor also get comparatively much richer. Thomas Sowell has some good books on the subject of economics and the Austrian school if you’re interested. And the “good” ol’ days, were also when America had a near industrial monopoly, not because of taxes.
I think the allegations against him are paper thin and supported by very little evidence. He was convicted by people who hate him in a state that wanted him off the ballot. If you hear a crowd chanting “burn the witch.” While dragging someone to a pyre you’re not likely to believe in the unimpeachable character of their conviction, or the force of the crowd’s legal mandate. And Trump and Epstein had interactions, but so did most people with a ton of money.
I think raising NYC taxes is excessive. Rent control or in this case “rent stabilization.” Is a policy with a long history… of making housing far less affordable everywhere it’s implemented. State owned grocery stores are a bad idea for a number of reasons and will likely lead to worse outcomes for the very people they are trying to help. And he has literally talked about wanting to “Seize the means of production.”
Essentially he advocates for a disproven economic theory which has left ruin in its wake for over a hundred years. He has talked about “global intifada.” Which is about as respectable a term as “living space.” Or “White man’s burdens.” And he wants to undercut the very thing which made NYC a major city in the first place, that being economic activity, by raising taxes even further. Nothing to do with him being a Muslim.
