I believe people will still have religion and/or still believe in something. Not all religions endings end the same way. So if one explanation wasn’t thought up another will take its place. People will find a reason or a belief to make sense of life and what life holds. If consciousness ended after death, then the worry becomes how they’re portrayed after death by those who live instead of judgment by God or an ultimate punishment/reward.
