Q for in STEM majors and are religious: How exactly do you join those two things? I’ve become interested in religion, but the science and logic part of me finds it hard to dive into.

What a well-intentioned question

I do believe in ghosts/spirits and that there are things outside of our control, but I find it hard to ascribe to a singular deity that I find belief in.

The way I join them is this understanding: Spirituality/religion is not how to get what you want out of life, it's how to want what you get out of life. STEM skills are all hard work, practice, and training. Like YoYo. To me that knowledge is practically useless unless fun or profitable. So religion keeps my relationships stable and helps me maintain a continuity of community, purpose, and meaning. STEM pays the bills and is an entertaining hobby

Read Carl Jung’s works. Symbolism and archetypes are a deep, deep rabbit-hole that will make you understand religion a lot more.

Read into the intelligent design theory of religion. That’s what really solidified my faith! Basically, the universe and life is SO COMPLEX that it MUST have been created by God. The more you dive into biology, organic chemistry, ecology, etc, you’ll begin to see like DAMN! No way all this lined up by chance. HE must have designed it to be so!

Another good one is: God’s time must be different from ours. So when it says: God created the universe in 7 days. In human time, that could mean 7 billion years!

Ultimately, science is just the study and attempt to understand Gods creation
