i had a tortoise since i was born basically my family had it for almost 100 years before me and it never had a smell. their enclosures can smell if you don’t clean them and if you have a smelly enclosure the smell can get on the tortoise. but ours never had a smell and we cleaned the enclosure and the tortoise weekly.

would like to preface that i had a sulcata tortoise which is not a normal start tortoise that might have also changed things - she stayed outside for probably 1/3-1/2 (depends on temp) of the year and had a room in the house the rest of the year
