hey so i actually did have undiagnosed autism! but i do agree that it is a huge problem when neurotypicals romanticize autism and see it as quirky and fun and say they have autism just bc they relate to like one of the many traits like they seem to forget it is a DISABILITY for a reason
If you actually get into psych, adhd, add, bpd, bipolar, ocd, autism, anxiety, and depression all have shared symptoms and experiences… it’s a spectrum and the lines are pretty goddamn blurry. So yes if you experience one, you probably experience others in a minor or major capacity. That’s also why all the medications are kinda bandaid solutions, they bounce you around on a bunch of controlled substances and record the results.
Ik your worried about side affects but it youre thinking about it at all i recommend doing it! Getting on meds made me realize how miserable I was before I had them, and then I was eventually able to get off them and it helped a lot! If its not something you want to do though thats totally understandable some of the side effects are notttt good lol
Where do you guys think disorders come from :/ different brain compositions or just a difference in the level of activity. Because if both are true then it's just a matter of whether or not you listened to your parents and society. A lot of autistic people don't show that their autistic. But you know how that is? Lmaooooo. My sisters autistic and she can effectively embody a role on stage. I conclude my statement. Have any of you actually tried acting before? You realize a lot about yourself.
Yup, I’m one of the recently diagnosed folks (because y’all know how they are with defending it in girls/women 🥲🤙) tbh, I’ve heard so many folks say stuff like ‘everyone claims they have it these days.’ Which (typically) seem to imply one of two things: - That people are only saying they have ADHD for ‘clout’ - or the fact that more people getting diagnosed = many don’t legitimately have it…It really just seems like we’re getting better at spotting it diagnostically.
Yes!! Okay, so I knew this dude that would say stuff like ‘everyone thinks they have it these days - now I feel embarrassed to have it.’ idk…it had always struck me as a little weird, ig? Like he was trying to position himself as one of the ‘real’ ADHD-diagnosed people, or more legit/superior than folks who got diagnosed recently. But yeah, I think the increase is *definitely* partly because folks of all backgrounds and genders are finally getting tested to some degree. Sorry for being yapper.
Yeah, like I have a history of heart conditions in my family and my concerns about cardiac related side effects are a valid reason to be apprehensive. People shouldn’t be shamed (cough cough #14 being an ignorant dickhead) for making choices that align with their circumstances. Thank you for being considerate #29.
My girlfriend is autistic. Many of my friends and family are autistic. I’ve had autistic coworkers, classmates, neighbors, peers, etc. Frankly, probably more than you You don’t get to decide anything because you threw all credibility out of the window when you started spouting these dumbass, objectively false claims
autism and adhd are both neurodevelopmental conditions that you are born with, so no it isn’t because of lifestyle or socialization. i have both and it took forever to be diagnosed outwardly i am good at socialization and have a “normal” lifestyle due to masking to fit in, but both conditions are still extremely disabling even though other people wouldn’t be able to tell from the outside
Not everyone needs to take medication people have their reasons for avoiding it. I might have to be pulled off mine because of how it’s affecting my cardiac health and my eating habits. My choice to take meds is my own, I do it for me, not to make me more tolerable for other people. If people don’t like me unmedicated, then they don’t like me. That’s not my fault.
Um, you are free to do you, for whatever reason. But I reserve the right to get off the merry go round that results from it. I have compassion for your plight as a person with ADHD, but I don’t have to join your circus, no matter how justified or legitimate. I’m allowed to detest it.
I manage side effects by choosing 1) the most appropriate medication for me that gives me the least side effects, and 2) regular cardio. I do cardio like my life depends on it, because I want to stay functional for as long as possible. I remember pre-medicated life, and I’ll do anything to not go back to it. I also take a beta blocker for the mild effects my stimulant does cause. All sanctioned by a cardiologist btw. I have a very healthy heart after ten years of stimulant use.
For me, being devoted to a healthy lifestyle and a healthy heart is the way to stay on my medication for the remainder of my career. I’ll become a golfer that forgets where tf her ball went when I’ve actually saved for retirement by being stable enough to save money for it. This isn’t just a preference, this is about controlling my own life, or being a victim of it.
