I got a neoendocrine tumor in my left lung. I had surgery to remove it and am now cancer free. I lost half of my left lung. Feel free to ask me anything about that.

Can you breathe easier knowing you’re cancer free?

Does it affect your voice at all

Ha! I love puns. Yes actually. The tumor was blocking that section of my lung so it’s literally easier to breathe even though I’m missing half a lung.

The tumor itself was not painful. The collapsed lung and the pneumonia I kept getting over and over before we discovered it? Absolutely. The surgery was tough. It was a Thorocotomy, which means they cut your side/back and use a contraption to spread your ribs apart. Recovery from that was severe pain for about 12 weeks, then it calmed down rather quick. I have a seemingly permanent broken rib, which doesn’t hurt unless I move in a super awkward way or something.

Thanks! I was able to even go golfing a bunch this summer. I didn’t think I’d get to do that. I just had the surgery about 8 months ago.

My lung collapsed one day and we found it on a CT scan. Then we confirmed it with a bronchoscopy

Nope, my throat was a bit sore from the bronchoscopy but my voice is normal

Fascinating. I had work done in my throat when I was a baby and it paralyzed one of my vocal cords, so that’s why I was askin. Great to know your voice healed up good!
