Why do we care so much about who people love? Why can’t we just let people love who they want to?

Because just because someone loves someone doesn’t mean that someone is good for them. Many of the abused still love their abusers. Stop being simplistic and naive. “It makes me happy” does not always equal “It is good”.

Be honest, if you had a white daughter or son, would you let them date a black person

I completely agree with this statement. Just because someone loves them doesn’t mean that person is good for them. I was talking more about how people care so much about gay marriage, but this applies as well.

You’re still being simplistic and naive. Marriage is an institution. Pro-gay marriage people and anti-gay marriage people can agree on one thing: marriage is an important institution. Otherwise neither of them would care.

yeah we're all on the same page about that. OP's point was that some people have extremely strong opinions about who *other people* are allowed to marry

Do you not? You’re missing my point that people who have opinions like ours, or against ours, all care about and have extremely strong opinions about the institution of marriage. Even if sex and love are taken out of the equation all-together people are going to have strong opinions about the institution of marriage.

what is your point here? OP said "I don't get why people care about who other people marry" and your response is "because they have a strong opinion"?

The answer to OP’s question is simple: for the exact same reasons you care. To question why other people care while you care, to act like only one side cares, is naive. My response is answering the questions and commenting on simplistic viewpoints that are too common.

Absolutely because race doesn’t define who a person is. It’s just apart of their genetics.

I see what you’re saying. It isn’t really ‘naive’ it’s just a wonder. Love is love to me, anyone can marry whoever they want whether they’re gay, straight, idc. I’m just saying it’s odd to me how so many people are dead set on not allowing people to get married to each other. So in a way, I do care enough to talk and think about it. Even so, I don’t care what other people do with their lives. It isn’t any of my business. People make other people’s lives their business when they don’t need to.
