
computer engineer here, yes and no. some of the algorithms write themselves, a lot of the code is actually just stolen or copied, and the people who do the work are not typically the ones making the money off it. while not generally ‘burning down forests’ directly, it does consume exorbitant amounts of water (often in deserts), tax power grids, and cause heat pollution, though not to the extent of actual combustion. above all, it’s just often wrong. like, quantifiably incorrect. stupid, even.
