AITA For "controlling campers language"? I work with young kids and one thing I do not tolerate is kids trying to demean other kids by saying stuff like "You run like a girl" or "ew that's so gay". My coworker said that it's not that deep but I've done...

Literal research and reports on how that kind of language affects kids and their self worth later on in life. When girls hear that boys are being told they're not strong enough and in result makes them feminine, those girls often grow up to internalize the belief that they are less than. Believe me I trash talk my campers all the time in games, but I use language that doesn't demean a group of people...

I think you’re pretty clearly nta for wanting the kids to improve that mindset. If you’re just going “hey we don’t say things like that, girls run just as well as boys” or something and continuing on, that’s great and not too much at all

nta. it is kinda that deep. stuff like that gets ingrained young, even if it’s just said “as a joke”. the little girls and future queers of america who won’t be hearing that def appreciate it

Plus it's so simple to not do that. Today a camper told me that a fish walks faster than me (and it was deserved 😔). Idk I feel like I'm doing too much because my coworkers say I am, but my field of study has countless data (and just general lived experience) to show how harmful this everyday language can be.
