AITA for using my ex as the standard I want in a relationship? It’s a pretty high bar and I haven’t met anyone who comes close to it

I don’t think you’re necessarily an asshole for wanting someone like your ex if that’s what you want, but if I was dating someone and found out they liked me bc I reminded them of their favorite ex I think I would be pretty hurt and uncomfortable.

It depends. I may be using my ex as the standard when I get back out there bc before him I was treated horribly. He was a gentleman, paid for most dates (I had to practically fight him so he’d let me pay lol), remembered small things I liked, was there for me, and just over all felt me safe and loved. I would want someone who acts in those ways, but not like a copy of him. I don’t think it’s wrong to use stuff like that as a standard

Just bc someone else is similar doesn’t mean it’ll be a good relationship. NTA for having preferences but maybe shift your expectations

Before anyone asks. We broke up bc of how horribly my mental health got when our relationship became long distance. He’s in the army and was given orders to go to Korea for a year only after us dating for a month

Things fell apart because of some stupid choices on my part, I’d make this one work if I met someone like them
