Am I an asshole for never wanting to get on a plane because I’m too scared, even if it means my partner will miss out on going somewhere?

Your partner can always go without you. Just remember that planes are significantly safer than cars.

Just start small. Expert pilots regularly fly planes around the world every day. I totally understand the fear, but it’s a shame we hear more about the few plane crashed that happen every year, than the millions (maybe billions) of flights that land successfully. The more you fly the easier it gets. Also, if it helps, the back of the plane is statistically safer than the front, planes are designed to glide, and turbulence is normal 😊.

Why would that mean that your partner is missing out on going somewhere?

You can survive a car crash, you’re significantly less likely to survive a plane crash

dying in a plane crash shouldn’t hurt as much though

Then you should like planes a lot more than cars. There are fear of flying groups online that can help you ease your worries, but letting yourself miss out on seeing the world because of a fear that isn’t very rational is silly.

My point is in the event it does happen a car crash is significantly easier to survive

But car crashes happen far more often and dying in a car crash is significantly more likely to happen than dying in a plane crash, even if your chance of survival in any one car crash is higher. Never mind your chance of getting traumatically injured in a car crash. The chance of a plane crash happening at all is so slim it doesn’t compare. Your thought process, respectfully, is completely irrational if your fear is death.

Your fear is irrational and if you can’t get over it, you and your partner are probably not compatible. I’m assuming you’re pretty young, and I’m assuming your partner is too
