I’m black and my bf is Asian. We have this stupid joke where he calls me his little rapper and I call him my little k-pop star as a joke but our yt friend got super butt hurt about it and thinks we’re racist. Is it worth being that upset about?

Him getting offended by that is like choosing to step in dog shit instead of walking around it. NTA

Of course it’s a white person getting offended on the behalf of people of color

i think it’s fine for them to be a little shocked by it, but to be genuinely upset or annoyed is hilarious 😭 it’s not like you guys are doing it to be mean to each other, it’s funny

Ur friend is ridiculous im white and I strongly believe that most if not all white ppl (including myself) do not understand racism bc we cannot experience it and the intersectionality of interracial relationships

white friend is being weird. It’s not racism if it’s close friends or partners joking around

NTA but this reminds me of a cringe parody TT of interracial couples where they call each other rice and fried chicken 💀

It’s not worth him being upset. But also you probably don’t want to loose a friend over something so silly so consider that to

Seems like you’re just poking fun at your own cultures and that seems perfectly normal to me? Seems like a “woke” friend

I agree that the friend is getting butthurt over nothing here but this isn’t the right reasoning. non-white people can absolutely be racist and white people are absolutely in the right to call them out.

if they lose their friend over something this silly, that friend is delusional and will probably NEVER have friends

Idk I think that’s the wrong mindset. Everybody has things about them that you won’t like. Way better to have a conversation with them, explain your POV and decide if this is actually something worth ending a friendship over.

You shouldn’t just dismiss them in the basis that “we couldn’t have been good friends anyways”

Yeah I never made a comparison to slavery. But you’re telling white people to sit down and shut up, no matter what nonsense is being said. That’s certainly not how I want my friends to treat me.

It doesn’t take 4 years of education to identify racism. It’s only selectively that we pretend white peoples can’t identify racism. In fact leftists like yourself (of all races) accuse others of racism all the time.

I mean we clearly disagree whether white people can experience racism. Regardless you don’t need any personal experience to call out racism when it presents itself. Like I said before if you actually believed that you would also believe no white person should ever call out another white person for being racist. Which is a nonsensical position I know you don’t believe.

Either way research shows that if people believe they are going to be discriminated against, then they will report discrimination whether it happened or not, and of course nobody wants to admit they have discriminated against someone else. So when it comes to racism biases tend to cloud everyone’s judgment, of pretty much every race. The best we can do is to think about things from a detached perspective and reference research when possible.

Nah. There are “woke” people like that in all colors. I’m white, but I just think that’s funny and have done similar stuff with a couple of my friends. Taking it and giving the same in return
