I have such low expectations that have only shrunk over time and now he has the audacity to act like a 10 minutes conversation with me is a chore. My mom is saying I should “let it go”, as if I’m asking him to do something unreasonable.

Yeah bro that’s very unfortunate for you. My father was incarcerated for the first 15 years of my life, I’m 30 now and we have a pretty good bond. He lives in a different state so we’ll sometimes go several days without talking, but it doesn’t bother me, even if I have to call him first I will if i want to talk/need advice. If you feel that he isn’t adding any support or positivity to your life then what’s the point? I have 2 boys now and it would kill me to read something like this about me

And for that your mother is in the wrong too. My mother was extremely passive towards my fathers bs and expected me to be the same and that STILL fucked her over
