AITA for not letting my sister drive my car because she's too aggressive on the road? She's never been in an accident yet, but she's real petty. Like she'll tailgate someone if they're going too slow or speed up if someone tries to cut her off.

Not at all, it’s your car. You wouldn’t be an asshole if you never let anyone else drive your car ever, it’s up to you what you’re comfortable with. I have had someone else total my car before and I was so upset with myself for going against my gut and trusting them

I drive like that but I don’t let anyone drive my car period. 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s my car. It’s your car so you’re NTA period.

Ngl, I kinda hate your sister already. Merging is SUCH an easy opportunity to get into an accident, and she intentionally makes it more risky? Geez. The tailgating tho… I know I should also probably hate that one because it’s so dangerous, but I utilize my own pettiness in those instances.

NTA. i dont own my own car, so i drive my moms mainly and occasionally my brothers. If my brother says no, then its no. Am i a bad driver? No. Do i respect their decisions? Yes. A car is an investment that depreciates over time. I wouldnt want something i paid so much money for, to be in the hands of someone tjat doesnt appreciate that fact. Also, i do the same as your sister sometimes, and thats why i dont mind being told no. Like just get your own if your that desperate(im broke i cant afford)

Probably not, but depends who paid for the car and why she doesn’t have one. For example, if your parents paid for it and she doesn’t have one right now because you wrecked hers then ya.

In driving school, they told us not to slow down or speed up when someone is riding your ass. I listen to half that advice. 😇 If someone is tailgating me when I’m going the speed limit or above, I will intentionally slow down (if I’m not in the fast lane and it’s safe to do so). If I’m going the speed limit, this means toggling between 1&2 below, if I’m going above that means going exactly the speed limit. They are the ones liable in the case of an accident, and I am not above weaponizing that.

On topic though, NTA. Not trusting someone to keep your car intact is a perfectly valid reason to not let em drive ur car. In fact, I would say that you don’t even *need* a “valid” reason to not let someone drive your car. NTA.

what are you suggesting they do, speed up because they’re being tailgated?? nah, tailgating is 100% a reasonable time for malicious compliance, and going the speed limit when you normally wouldn’t is in no way “going against defensive driving”

No, not at all. Tailgaiting is more dangerous than anything on the road. Speeding up increases the danger for both involved. Slowing down is a reasonable way to get your point across and stay safe at the same time. Brake checking during tailgating is where i would draw the line bc that shits already dangerous, and your adding to it by brake checkibg. But for the most part, i agree with #4

full agree on this. as long as you keep moving it’s safer than braking in a situation like that. but going exactly the speed limit or under it is the perfect way to get a point across to assholes like that

You read too much into peoples comments and I’m just gonna leave it at that. I’m not a bad driver by any means, just because you see certain actions as aggressive isn’t my problem. The real problem is people going too slow when everyone else around them is going faster and if you’re cutting someone off you’re no better than them for speeding up.

It's 100% my car. Paid for it myself and everything. Only reason she doesn't have one is because she goes to school in the city while I go to school in the middle of nowhere with shitty public transport.

Tailgating people is the stupidest way to get into an accident. People should not be driving too slow but when you crash into someone and paralyze their child sitting in the backseat, you’re going to wish you had a little more patience

Tbh I don’t actually tailgate people in normal situations. Now if you’re in the left lane on the highway driving like a dick then we got a problem. But you need to chill thinking you’re the traffic police and worry about yourself.
