No, especially if its in the lease. They can always go outside

nta obviously. you could get exorbitant cleaning fees when you move out.

as a smoker you are nta they were well aware that its a no smoking zone, if they need to smoke that badly they could’ve found roommates who didn’t mind. Everyone deserved to live in an environment they’re comfortable with

Shi idk the smoker in me wants to say yes but at the same time if the house don’t agree then it’s a problem I think u should let em know what’s up tell em to go outside

No, even if it wasnt in the lease. If you smoke inside your own house thats your choice but if you have non smoking roommates dont be POS

absolutely nta. if we’re talking cigs or bud, that shit reeks and it’s never been an issue when i tell people they need to smoke outside at my place. if its something like vapes or dispos that’s kinda different tho, bc it doesn’t linger or leave residue so i’ve never minded if it was smoked inside

NTA if you have talked to them and they’re still doing YTA if you haven’t talked to them and just are expecting them to not do it

Personally smoke does give me migraines but one of my other roommates was an asshat and I knew it would bother her so I didn’t care so when the other roommate did and encouraged it. It was petty but the girl made us all miserable

I’ve never had a lease that didn’t say no smoking LOL…

If your door gets kicked in everyone’s going down for it. As a smoker smoking inside is goofy.

(if it’s weed and they do it correctly there are ways to vent it so it doesn’t smell before the landlord finds out, and the health effects are not as bad, but they’re still the ah for not respecting someone saying they don’t want their nonsmoking house to not have smoke in it)

even the smoker in me wouldn’t say yes it’s simple respect to other ppls boundaries and it would be plain ignorant to assume everyone’s ok with smoking inside unless it’s specifically stated not to. what any smoker should do is always smoke outside and if they feel like asking their roommate if it’s cool they can but it’s not up to the roommate to state “hey that’s not cool” to something so obv not cool…

i get just as bad headaches from people vaping nic near me as smoking cigarettes. i think we’re going to find out down the line that secondhand vape is also harmful.

this is super valid! i think if you get reactions like this and/or don’t want to consume it secondhand you have every right to ask your tenants/roommates to not do it around you. this is just my preference bc i smoke myself lol

smoke is enough for landlord to enter without permission due to fire risk

You must not read your leases. Also because weed is obviously illegal most people who smoke would be smart enough not to do it somewhere where you’ll be identified use your noodle.

Let them find out the hard way. LOL I worked in leasing for two years and we always knew who were smoking weed in their apartment or had unauthorized animals. We’d chill let it be and then randomly hit them with a $300 fine when rent was due. It was wild. They’d call freaking out and the manager would forward photos right back to the email of proof. Radio silence.

yeah as a former medical cannabis patient, a lot of people don’t know that it is still federally illegal to have weed in rented/leased housing you don’t own outright regardless of medical status or recreational legality in your state. they make it very clear in the forms you have to sign. WON’T ANYONE PLEASE READ IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS THOROUGHLY?

If it’s weed they could just do edibles if they absolutely need to be inside

not everyone who responds well to smoking responds well to edibles, but if their roommate can smell their smoke, they clearly are weenie hut junior at filtering their smoke or aren’t trying at all, at which point, they should be banished outside lol
