AITA for matching energy w my friends over my birthday? My bday is in a few days & no friends have reached out to make plans. I’m hurt bc for their bdays I make plans & buy gifts. No friends have reached out yet & I’m feeling unimportant & uncared for.

It seems like none of my friends are going to celebrate my birthday so now I don’t want to go as big for their birthdays from now on. Being in college, a handful of friends have moved away & I don’t expect anything from them but maybe a text? My issue is with the friends still here who haven’t tried to plan or acknowledge my birthday.

I’ve been in your situation before. Sometimes if you think you’re the one putting in all the effort you need to pull away and see if they do. If they make some effort back, that’s good, but if they’re not doing that, then maybe it’s time to separate from your friends or at least talk to them and explain what’s going on and how you feel

NTA for being upset but borderline asshole if you take it out on them. Some people don’t care about holidays & special days. You can celebrate any day!

Yeah I’m in a very similar boat 😭 Like my friend group wants to celebrate birthdays as a group and one person got super mad at all of us bc she was worried she might not get a party last year bc we started getting too busy with finals But I never got a party last year and nobody is doing anything about it this year either I’m also not the only one who’s been disregarded so like 🫠

Def not going to take it out on them but they do put importance on celebrating their own birthdays and birthdays of our other friends both mutual and not mutual.

Fair enough. I know personally I’m bad with birthdays so perhaps they aren’t thinking about it though. I’d just take note and move on, see if other stuff happens
