The fact some don’t care about SNAP cuts because they see most of the recipients as lazy leeches when 60% of them are CHILDREN or elderly says a lot about our priorities. Hyper individualism is a curse.

The dems also don’t control the White House, Senate, or the Supreme Court so this shutdown is republican manufactured

Not even like the left is doing anything to stop this but they aren’t actively assenting to Trump’s claims of dictatorship. The whole system is corrupt, you only like to point it out when dems do it

The kids or elderly obviously aren’t the lazy leeches. It’s their parents who, if they’re able bodied, should have a job and be paying for their food themselves

Do you think the kids who were on SNAP, who are now, the elderly, or disabled using it are gonna hear the difference? That random people glaring at a mom who’s in school for better pay in line with her kids using SNAP are making that distinction then? That the kids who see strangers glaring at them will? Cause the people shrugging off that 60% not having food sure as hell aren’t.

People shouldn’t be glaring at the kids then. Easy solution. Doesn’t negate how tons of people game the system and are having EBT while using it to get their nails done each week and all this other stuff they don’t need. The system is terrible. There are lots who need it, and lots who don’t but are still receiving benefits.

Yes because the kid seeing you glare at their parent or making demeaning comments about a program their parent uses is better? I’m not saying there aren’t people who take advantage of the system but using that to reflexively shit on everyone using it is not the solution. Those people can hear you too.

I had a friend who’s doing great now but back in school he used SNAP. Basically all his time was split between the athletics his scholarship depended on, school work, and the job he needed to cover the rest. He needed SNAP to afford food. People didn’t see a hard worker trying to better himself when he used it though, just a leech. And now those people are ALSO suffering and no one cares. They’re just guilty by association.

Well maybe if you got rid of the leeches in the program people wouldn’t assume those on EBT are leeches.

Or maybe if you stopped projecting that onto everyone who uses it to justify not caring people in actual need wouldn’t be collateral damage. You can want to improve the system and even work to without throwing everyone under the bus in the process

How am I throwing everyone under the bus? Is it wrong of me to acknowledge that there are people on SNAP misusing it? I’m not personally glaring at people and if that happens that is not good, but that doesn’t mean I can’t point out the flaws and want them fixed

That was a general you, not an individual one. Maybe you missed my intent or I missed yours. The post is about people who don’t gaf about people genuinely in need not getting assistance and making demeaning comments bc they hate everyone on the program. In that context it seemed like you were saying them doing that was okay since SOME people take advantage. Think you thought me pointing out that 60+% meant I didn’t think some WERE taking advantage or it couldn’t be improved. I’m not.

No i don’t think anyone should be judged in just saying the stereotypes for the program are there for a reason, because it is widely misused. Not that all are misusing it, but a lot do.

I mean sure, just don’t take that out on EVERYONE who uses the program. If you’re not balancing out the comments about people using it for their nails with kind words about that disabled person penny pinching or calling out the nail lady to DEFEND that disabled Penny pincher you’re doing it wrong. (Again, general you not you specifically)

holy moly this guy knows nothing about snap. you have to have a job and work certain amounts of hours to qualify if you’re not a child or elderly. it’s to supplement income not a handout
