Person B is a bad friend and also lacks the correct approach. It takes less than one minute to respond to a text and go 'hey sorry lifes really hectic rn, we'll talk soon when some time clears up, love you!' To be confronted for being a poor communicator and bad friend and turn it around on the other person and put words in their mouth is both childish and manipulative. I agree, A should take the hint and let go without the confrontation, but B's response says more than enough abt the situation
1 Person A: Hey girl, I hope you’re doing good. I just wanted to touch base and see how you’re doing. I miss you. I know we’re both busy doing our own thing but I feel like it’s been hard to connect with you lately since we don’t talk like that. I just want to know if this is a friendship you still want because I don’t like feeling like I have to beg for effort or friendship… I understand life gets crazy but I’d rather know how you feel than assume
3 Person B: Hey, I want to just say that communication goes both ways. You could have messaged me and call. I be busy working and then I have to juggle school and building my career. I’m fully in the workforce. I’m not going to have much free time to message first. Sometimes I can’t be there for you emotionally like I was in college.
5 Person A: I get what you’re saying, and I completely understand that life looks different now. My message wasn’t about expecting you to text me all the time or always reach out first. It was more that when I do reach out, our conversations feel really short or disconnected, and when we’re otp, we haven’t really been able to connect either.
9 Person A: I’m not asking to be a top priority in your life, I’m an adult too and have my own responsibilities, you’re not the only one. A person can have a career, their personal growth, and family as their priorities and still make a friend feel valued. I’m sure you still have people in your life that you’re putting your part of your attention into, I’m just asking if I’m still someone you care to maintain a friendship with.
11 Person A: I just want you to be honest and let me know if on top of the people you’re already pouring into and the life you’re maintaining, if we can still call ourselves friends. I value you and even though I rarely hear it back from you, I do love you. But I don’t want to chase or put energy into you if you’ve already decided for yourself that you’re no longer interested in investing in our friendship.
Person A should let it go. If person B is drifting away, then person A will not be able to convince them to stay in contact. It sounds like person B doesn’t want to hurt person A’s feelings, but also can’t be bothered to maintain the close friendship. It doesn’t seem worth the trouble for either to have this conversation and verbalizing everything just made it more awkward and created unnecessary tension
