Am I the asshole for telling my sister that the best choice for her is to have an abortion because she’s pregnant with triplets at 18 before going to college?

A fetus is not a baby either. Okay? A fetus is a fetus and is part of a woman’s body and that is why we like to leave it up to that woman to make her own choices as to what she may do with herself if she is pregnant. It’s not a baby until the umbilical cord is cut and it’s breathing independently. So, yeah, those are the facts of the matter. I wish “some people” would stop trying to force their values on others and oppress each other. The phrase “keep your crucifix out of my uterus” says it all

Only the rich kids at school get to have sex because we assume if they get knocked up their rich parents will obviously support the kid for its whole life? Actually, in all seriousness, it’s probably generally those rich kids in school whose parents are most likely to pressure their kids into abortions when there’s an unplanned pregnancy in high school or college.

Ok, another reason abortions happen instant occasionally it becomes clear that carrying a pregnancy to term will kill the mother. Or ruin her chances of ever having any additional children. What about that? These anti abortion people are so hardcore they’ll say fuck the mother off, risk it all on the baby that might also die at birth anyway, and say oh well, god works in mysterious ways… DIDNT HAVE TO BE A MYSTERY! If she wants them, she can have them. It’s as simple as that. It’s not a question of it being fair. For the record, I’m with you man! My opinion is that she should abort, as kids should have the resources they need to thrive! But nobody has kids un-selfishly. We are mostly brought into the world because someone wanted us, not because someone was ready. If she has all the info and chooses to keep them, she has the right to choose

Right we should instead kill 3 children because the parents willingly did something they knew could have this outcome when they knew they couldn’t support children

What defines life? You are cells. As are every single living thing ever. Even single-cell organisms are “alive.” At what point does a child become “alive” for you?

this is a terrible fucking opinion and brings down the pro choice movement. any choice is valid and there are private adoption agencies with stricter regulations on foster homes. just because it wouldn’t be your choice, doesn’t make it any less of a choice for families not prepared to welcome a child into their lives.

Yeah exactly, there are private adoption agencies with stricter regulations So the choices are keep and raise the child, or give for adoption. The end

yea you're right. abortion is for people who want the easy way out. people who dont give a shit about a human life. you act like having a baby is equivalent to having a plague. and taking a life is "simple". give me a break. you sound absurd.

That’s not always true. Sometimes people abort a pregnancy because it happened during a violent rape. Other times people abort a pregnancy because it was unplanned and they were living a lifestyle that would be very damaging to a fetus until they found out they were pregnant and they are scared the baby will be brain damaged and developmentally challenged. Sometimes pregnancies are aborted because they were conceived through incest. Sometimes people just aren’t mature enough to raise a child yet

Do you think there should be an extra charge for murdering a pregnant woman as opposed to the charge for just murdering a regular human? Also do you think that since the baby still can’t survive on its own freshly after being born does that mean it’s still not a human since it’s still completely reliant on others to take care of it?

It can survive on its own. It has developed organs to sustain life. A woman’s body is no longer needed for survival. An infant is no different from an invalid adult who has no fine motor skills.

Ok, well, I think just like with an abortion where we have enacted these laws against third trimester abortions, I think we should use the same distinction to decide whether there’s an additional charge for the unborn murdered. If the cutoff for an abortion is at 24 weeks, then that’s where you can start charging the extra murder. The line has to be somewhere, I guess.

I think there’s a difference between a fetus being literally attached to a woman’s body with a cord and a baby that is an autonomous unit of its own and not physically attached to another person.

I’m actually not opposed to that. While it’s especially heinous and should be treated as such, I don’t think it should be an additional charge for a non viable fetus.

I also think I’m being generously sympathetic to pro-lifers and Christians by saying the line drawn might as well be at the third trimester rather than drawing it literally at the moment of live birth. I think I understand that the basis for the rule against third trimester abortions was originally more about the safety of the mother than the philosophical question of when exactly does an unborn fetus become an actual baby. And so as long as that line is already there in most states, it makes…

Who really goes around assuming if they accidentally get pregnant it’s gonna be triplets? That almost never happens. Also, sometimes condoms fail. That means despite any precautions taken, it’s still possible to slip one (or three) past the goalie and face an unplanned pregnancy. I don’t particularly appreciate your addition of the “when they knew they couldn’t support children” component of your remarks either. That’s pretty haughty, don’t you think? Are we going to start running the financials

If you take a baby and cut its umbilical cord and lay the baby on a table and leave it will not survive. It needs other people to take care of it till it can physically care for itself. That is essentially the same amount of need for other humans as a fetus developing in the womb. In the womb the mother eats more food to help grow the baby. When the baby is born the mother produces milk to continue to feed the baby. If life doesn’t begin at conception then at what point does it begin?

You’re oversimplifying the situation. Can’t there be different forms and phases of life? It’s just black or white to you? Are we going to count jerked off sperms as lives? Unfertilized eggs? And if we do that, I guess we have to start thinking about yeast and bacteria and fungal growths as individual lives too. Where does it end then? I don’t know why people think we HAVE to fit everything into just two black or white categories. In this case you’re hung up on a false dichotomy. Knock it off.

A vast majority of pro lifers agree that when the mothers health is in serious risk of death to continue the pregnancy than abortion is on the table. Doesn’t mean we think people should be able to have abortions because they just don’t want it for x, y, z reason. If your so quick to abort an unwanted pregnancy just bc you don’t want a baby than you shouldn’t be having intercourse period

If a medical professional says “you’re gonna die if you continue your pregnancy” then they can order an abortion for you just like any other general operation or medical treatment. Think of it like a doctor telling you that you need to remove a kidney so then you have it removed, you don’t just go remove it without consultation of a doctor bc you decide you just don’t want a kidney anymore

Listen, idiots, kids fuck around. And kids get pregnant. Don’t we consider kids under a certain age as unable to legally consent to sex with adults? Hmmm? As in statutory rape laws? So, that means when two underage minors fuck each other, they weee both technically not able to properly consent. And yet it happens regardless. Whining about how some underage teenagers failed to consider the logistics of raising a baby to adulthood when they had sex at summer camp is pretty futile, dontcha think?

So you wish that any friends you have that were adopted, were aborted instead? Because if that were true then no kid should risk foster care and should just be aborted so they wouldnt exist
