I just got my random roommate assignment for my first year of college and they’re 24 (2nd year). I’m 17 (will be 18 in august) and they also work with my mom since my mom works for the university. AITA for thinking about requesting someone else?

Yea i promise you focus on your comfort anf your comfort only! You may think a year will fly by with an iffy roommate but it will feel like a century

Do you not want to room with them because they’re older than you or because they work with your mom? I think I’m missing the reasoning for wanting to switch rooms here

the slight problem with that is that both of us are trans and it was already my uni trying to accommodate and make us more comfortable. i did agree to it but no one told me any details until i did other than theyre trans and a sophomore

Like I said it’s ur roommate for the whole yr I suggest asking reslife to see what they can do for u never hurts to ask and since u weren’t told much it’s valid to ask for a reassignment

you’re so right. i’m just gaslighting myself and i’ll send an email. they’re confidential so i don’t have to worry about it being super awkward. i just can’t eat at the dining hall they work at anymore lol

It’s because they work with my mom. I got over them being older pretty quick. The problem is that I have to watch what I say about myself and my mom, and they will have to watch what they say about my mom and me. ie, i can’t do what regular teenagers do and complain about my mom (i do love her and she’s amazing but anyone can make anyone mad every now and again) and they can’t complain about their boss for fear of me relaying it to her etc
